Each portrait is accompanied by an authoritative yet engaging short biography by H. B. Butler of All Souls College or C. R. L. Fletcher (1857-1934), an eminent English historian. Collectively these biographical sketches and portraits provide a remarkable overview of an entire century of English history. The binding is tight and the pages clean and unmarked. The paper has just a hint of tanning and is in remarkably good condition for its age!
