First printing of the first authorized American mass market paperback edition of The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien (Ballantine Books, 1965). Increasingly scarce and collectible first printing of this edition of the beloved high fantasy novel, the third and final book in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. General wear to covers, especially around the edges which have creases, chipping and some tears. Corners worn. Small tear/crease across spine between “return” and “of”, but spine is otherwise straight and without reading creases. Binding remains quite strong. Small stain to first page, otherwise all pages are clean and unmarked though tanned. See photos for condition.
